The Tower of Babel

Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. 3 Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. 4 And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. 6 And the LORD said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. 7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city. 9 Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth. Genesis 11:1-9.

There is great and awesome power in unity, be it unity among people or unity within an individual (body, soul, and spirit). Nothing is practically impossible in an atmosphere of unity of mind and purpose. This unity is a sense of agreement and mutual consent among person(s) and this explains the question in Amos 3:3 – Can two walk together unless they be agree.
In atmosphere of unity, the impossible becomes cheaply possible, the unattainable easily attained and the unimaginable made real. Having one language is an evidence of unity and this tells to a great deal the place of effective communication in relationship. Effective communication is a lubricant for the engine of profitable relationship. You have no relationship with someone unless you can speak same language with such one; by language here I do not mean tongue.
With one language, no proposal is unattainable. When members of a team have and speaks one language, the best possible naturally becomes the experience of that team. Likewise when husband and wife have and speak one language, their home becomes the ideal home where love flows naturally. You do not struggle in a relationship where there is one language for understanding comes by default.
Building a city and tower whose head will get to heaven was a very difficult task, yet for one language it became a pleasurable one for the people. The expertise, skill, and technology required came so easily to the people; even the resources were readily available and nothing was able to stop them until God Himself did.
Why did God stop the building of the tower, was He against the peoples’ expression of their prowess? Not at all, it was the people that were against the plan and purpose of God for their creation. God made them and a vast expanse of land to inhabit but in the contrary they prefer to dwell in clusters and thereby violet the mind of God in creation. Spreading was God’s plan and the best for them but this they resisted and preferred to build a cluster for a dwelling. They preferred a little space to a wide space.
When men resisted spreading, they were scattered because at all times the plans and purpose of God must stand at all time and in all ages. What dream has God given you and you are building clusters instead of spreading the dreams and vision to have a wider reach. This is a question I would want you to ask yourself and give a reasonable answer to.
